ONE is scaling up its advocacy and campaigning efforts for a fixed period to double down on achieving urgent COVID vaccine access and economic recovery goals. The world now has the knowledge and the means to end the pandemic everywhere, but currently only 2.3% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose of the vaccine compared to 69% of the population in rich countries. Governments must urgently step up to ensure that 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated by September 2022 and that a sustainable global economic response plan is delivered that works for everyone.
We are seeking expertise and extra capacity in a number of key areas, including managing campaigns in East Africa. This is a unique opportunity to join an experienced and dynamic team at a crucial moment in time!
About the opportunity
As part of the Africa Team, the Pan Africa Campaign Manager will deliver impactful and innovative campaigns and actions that engage new and existing supporters and demonstrate grassroots support for ONE’s policy goals and mission. You will be responsible for helping to grow ONE’s supporter base in Africa delivering and coordinating a range of regional and country specific campaigns. You will also deliver on running campaigns in East African Countries. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Africa Campaigns Team, wider Engagement and Mobilization, Content and Country teams.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic teammate, skilled in developing digital (specifically email) and offline campaigns for an international audience. They will be a motivated self-starter with experience in creative communications, marketing and campaigns. They will be able to demonstrate excellent understanding of the power of digital channels to engage and empower supporters. In-depth experience campaigning on development issues is desirable. This role is an independent contributor and will work part of a larger team, but will not manage staff.
This is a fixed term position reporting to the Africa Campaigns Director and can be based in any country on the African Continent. Due to the current pandemic, the successful candidate may also be required to work remotely.
In this role, you will
- Help devise, develop and deliver impactful, creative online and off-line campaigns, which promote ONE’s Africa policy and advocacy messages to a diverse audience and contribute to policy change
- Develop specific campaigns to engage our supporters in East Africa with specific focus on Kenya and Ethiopia
- Work closely with Engagement and Mobilization, Content and Brand teams to produce campaigns’ materials (member emails, action pages, blogs, social contents) that encourage people to get involved and take action, grow our membership, and improve engagement
- Participate in the development and implementation of the ONE’s supporter engagement strategy in Africa, ensuring a growth in the quality and quantity of ONE supporters in line with regional targets
- Engage Champions across Africa and influential individuals to lobby key decision makers and to support ONE´s advocacy efforts
- Contribute to developing strategies for ONE’s online content on social media platforms (principally Facebook, Twitter and Tik Tok) and engaging our supporters
- Support the Africa Campaigns Director in providing leadership for coordinating the Champions Program across Africa
- Coordinate an external team of translators to help on projects
- Lead on the design and implementation of stunts, events and other public facing activities
- Coordinate with NGO coalitions, networks and partners to build our engagement with citizens
- Any other duties as required by the role
What you bring to one
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience working within the field of communications, marketing or campaigning, with proven record of performance including 2+ years in a coordination, management or lead capacity
- Demonstrable experience of developing innovative online communications and campaigns
- Experience of managing digital campaigns and of working with digital advocacy platforms such as ActionKit and Content Management Systems such as WordPress etc.
- Very strong written and verbal communications skills
- Experience of email marketing and social media best practices
- Experience of managing projects and organizing large public events
- Experience in working with prominent individuals, such as political leaders would be desirable.
- Experience of building partnerships with influencing stakeholders and establishing and maintaining strong networks.
- Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities under tight deadlines while performing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail
- A commitment to ONE’s aims and a clear understanding of the links between policy, lobbying, campaigning and media work
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
- Ability to work on the African Continent is required
