Position Summary:
This role is responsible for managing the BAL’s TV broadcast operations and production, graphics, satellite transmission and programming/scheduling output in collaboration with technical staff at the NBA in Secaucus, NJ including Broadcast Planning, International Programming, Media Operations & Technology and IT. This also includes working with Senior Director for Global Media Distribution for Africa, to identify and secure a TV Broadcast Partner for the BAL, as well as managing all aspects of the BAL TV broadcast, vendors and team to provide the highest quality production. The successful candidate will have enough technical knowledge to liaise with the necessary groups and help troubleshoot problems and will also possess the managerial skills to manage all stakeholders and the TV Broadcast Partner. The role will involve extensive project management work and operational management.
Major Responsibilities:
Co-produce World Feed and Africa feed broadcasts.
Creating formats and rundowns for live game takers Globally (including US).
Working with commentary teams throughout the season.
Coordination with Communications team for postgame interviews for broadcast Liaison with Global Partnerships on the execution and creative guidance for in-game sponsorship deliverables.
Work closely with in-arena entertainment production group in coordination of entertainment elements in broadcast.
Pre-tip timings Halftime.
Responsible for overall leadership and management of any third-party relationships as it relates to the game production/host broadcaster agreement of BAL.
Conduct technical surveys for upcoming events (travels to locations to determine technical requirements and obstacles), determine the feasibility of production requirements.
Provide direction and supervise third-party vendor on location.
Maintain accurate records and approve necessary work-flows as it relates to game production. Responsible for the planning, compilation and distribution of pre-event paperwork, budgeting, supervision on-site, and post event reports.
Ensures that appropriate timelines are met for technical and financial planning.
Supervise the installation, operation, teardown and manpower of the technical equipment and is technically responsible for the quality of each remote.
Required to participate in the planning and development for all BAL production including games, highlights, magazine shows and requirements of production operations, including but not limited to systems, workflow, staffing and facilities.
Deliver contractual rights to international broadcast partners.
Manage the procurement of suppliers.
Manage relationships with key rights holders and broadcast partners.
Attend events globally to oversee broadcast operations.
Supporting rights sales process budget management for competition.
This position will require travel with the BAL caravan, as well as night & weekend work
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of broadcast operating standards and systems, multi-platform production equipment, signal flow and distribution.
Has a foundational knowledge of project management.
Ability and willingness to work on deadline, multi-task and have a detail-oriented approach to work. Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
Verbal and written fluency in English required, and French preferred.
Experience Needed A minimum of 8 years of Broadcast production experience in the sports industry (ideally working on live sporting events).
Experience managing staff and agency relationships Experience managing multiple broadcast partners and agencies.
Demonstrable experience of managing agency budgets.
A good understanding of technological developments in the TV industry.
Educational Background Required:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Broadcasting, IT or related discipline.
