HILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3- The responsibilities of this post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children and young people.
As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.
OLE PURPOSE:
Ensure general functioning of the pharmacy and supervise pharmacy supply chain processes in accordance with SCI’s standards, to ensure its efficiency and operating availability. Under the supervision of the Health Technical Advisor, the Pharmacy Specialist will be responsible for the following specific activities in order to ensure good management of medical commodities across SCI Nigeria programming.

pharmacy management:
- Provide input in the preparation of international and local medical orders.
- Coordinate and supervise reception of local and international orders and donations in collaboration with the logistics department and inform the HTA and logistics Manager of any discrepancies or damage.
- Ensure prompt update of all stock movements, loans, donations, reception for all drugs, consumables and medical equipment in stock cards and on TEAMS.
- Check and ensure quality of drugs are in line with SCI internal standards and national guidelines during the procurement process.
- Participates in the development and implementation of drug consumption tools in supported facilities and mobile clinics within Nigeria.
- Share in advance information on pre-ruptures of essential drugs with program staff and coordinate with them on alternate sourcing to ensure continuity of program activities.
- Ensure overall compilation of consumption data across supported facilities for all drugs, consumables, medical equipment and kits.
- Monitor drug consumption and inform HTA and Logistic Manager in case of unusual consumption.
- Through regular inventory anticipate expired drugs, overstock, sleeping stock and pre-ruptures (identify and take proper actions on all stock indicators).
- Ensure prompt update of all stock movements, loans, donations, reception for all drugs, consumables and medical equipment in stock cards and on TEAMS.
- Report to HTA promptly on unusual consumption patterns and give support as required in securing buffer stock.
- Ensure timely and regular supply of medical commodities to all project sites and health facilities to avoid stock-out and interruption of ongoing activities.
- Support health facility assessment, preparation and planning for implementation, working in coordination with program staff.
- Conduct training on standard pharmaceutical stock management for SCI warehouse staff across different projects
Warehousing and Consumption monitoring:
- Ensure an organized and clean pharmacy; tidied, organized according to SCI rules of classification of drug, allowing easy access to the information.
- Organize the drugs storage according to international standards (route of administration, alphabetical order of International Non-proprietary Name, FEFO principle, clear labeling with INN + dosage + pharmaceutical form + expiry date) and donor.
- Organize and ensure weekly cleaning of the central pharmacy.
- Ensure twice a day temperature and humidity monitoring of the pharmacy and all refrigerators containing medications or any cold chain products and record it on the follow up sheet; keeping all stock under controlled temperature.
- Organize drugs, medical supplies and equipment for easy identification, inventory, and distribution (efficient stock movement).
- Ensure all boxes and items in stock are properly identified and registered in stock cards and TIMS.
- Report immediately any deviation from the expected temperature ranges to HTA and Logistic Manager, enquire the reasons of the dysfunctions and propose possible solutions.
- Ensure proper storage occurs in the central pharmacy and across the clinics, security and pest control protocols for medical warehousing is observed and always respected.
- Ensure all expired drugs and items are retrieved from the stock both in the central pharmacy and SCI supported facilities.
- Conduct regular check on respect for GDPs: the layout of the warehouse, storage, product arrangement, reception, distribution, and transport.
- Ensure that appropriate storage and handling occurs across SCI supported facilities.
- Monitor the monthly consumptions of drugs and supplies to supported facilities in coordination with program staff and ensure concurrence with program data.
- Report discrepancies and general consumption issues to the HTA/Logistic Manager and Health and Nutrition team
- Train program staff on consumption monitoring and reporting
- Work with health and nutrition Manager to amend drug and stock quotas on a weekly basis to prevent exceptional ordering.
- Responsible for inventory and replacement of all emergency boxes – following the schedule for these activities.
- Make regular supportive supervision to all health facilities or mobile sites been supported by SCI using the pharmacy standard checklist and provide technical support to MOH staff on standard practice, make recommendations based on the observed gaps for better programming.
Reporting:
- Follow up and analyse drugs consumptions per site in relation to protocols in force, populate the pharmacy database and ensure compliance with all pharmacy SOPs.
- Ensure regular monthly inventory; gather stock indicators, analyse them, and prepare the monthly pharmacy Activity Progress Report, pass it on to the HTA, logistic team and health and nutrition manager. Make recommendations on the risk analysis.
- Share in advance information on pending stock-out of essential commodities with health and nutrition team for prompt alternative sourcing to ensure continuity of program activities.
- Maintain a global overview of medical stocks in the country programs.
- Maintain an updated knowledge of global best practices.
- Maintain good knowledge of SCI Global Medical Procedures and tools.

- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent with minimum of 5 years progressive relevant experience post NYSC
- NYSC or exemption certificate
- Work experience in humanitarian settings and international NGO
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Previous experience with Save the Children
- Willingness to travel extensively within Nigeria
- Fluency in spoken and written English

- Previous supervisory role
