About the Role
Reporting to the Agroforestry Manager, the Agroforestry Specialist uses their expertise in agroforestry systems to support the agroforestry lead in developing agroforestry packages.
- You have specific technical expertise in agroforestry systems. You will use this expertise to make appropriate recommendations to increase farmer return on investment balanced with myAgro’s business model, the supply chain, the field team capability, and farmer behavior.
- You are an open-minded listener. You are focused on the organizational goals and therefore work starting from the end-users of the programs you design for (both farmers and field staff). You are not one to get stuck on perfection at the cost of delivering on organizational goals.
- You are experienced creating and running agroforestry specific M&E systems. You have the data analytics skills to summarize the findings and the capacity to communicate the successes in a compelling way
We operate in a part of the world already experiencing the harsh consequences of climate change, and our farmers are among the most vulnerable populations. The Agroforestry specialist is a new and crucial role to help myAgro with its ambition to create sustainable and climate resilient income sources for these farmers, setting them up for a better and more food-secure future.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Research agroforestry crops, varieties and techniques
- Conduct desk research on the successful agroforestry innovations that could benefit our farmers
- Connect and work with research centers and other specialists to stay up-to-date with recent development in the agroforestry space
- Visit and interview farmers to identify and get feedback on agroforestry innovations
- Support design and manage farmer pilots trials
- Propose agroforestry crops/varieties/techniques that agree with myAgro’s business model and North Star
- Propose farmer pilot projects to test innovations in real-world conditions
- Develop detailed trial protocols
- Support monitoring and evaluation of agroforestry systems
- Develop impact measurement process on agroforestry systems
- Analyse data and summarize insights
You are RIGHT for this role if…
- You have at least 5 years of experience as an expert advisor on agroforestry programs, preferably West Africa
- You have an academic background in agroforestry or agriculture systems
- You have held a position on the crossroads between multiple departments.
- You are fluent in French and speak English at a good level – enough to understand this job advertisement.
You are NOT qualified for this job if…
- You do not have more than 5 years of agriculture or agroforestry experience.
- You have never managed a team of 5 direct reports for more than a year.
- You are not fluent in French.
- You have no experience working in Africa.
