Key responsibilities
• Leads, directs, evaluates, and develops the L&S Procurement function in North West Africa (NWA)
• Being an integral part of the Area Management Team and hence being a true business partner
• Responsible of designing an executing a Procurement strategy together with Area and Regional stakeholders as well as AFR Procurement
• Leading negotiations and driving engagement between Maersk and its suppliers.
• Managing complex procurement projects within operations, to ensure alignment between costs, commercial needs and operational execution.
• Responsible for supplier relationship management, building strong relations with the vendors to drive value through the supply chain
• Being accountable for the portfolio framework to help ensure cost leadership, compliance and best in class supplier performance.
• Accountability for problem solving, analytical work, and driving insights from analytical work related to procurement functions
• Performing supplier market analysis and organising market intelligence.
• Cooperating closely with colleagues and stakeholders in all Maersk offices and with manager and colleagues within Africa.
• Some travel must be expected
• Has responsibility for training and growing employees within the L&S Procurement function to build organizational capability, talent, improves the way the team works
• Close interaction with Contract Management through self and team, to ensure all agreements are realizing contractual values
• Driving Maersk’s vision of becoming a global integrator of container logistics and growing the company’s inland footprint in Africa.
• Solving problems in a structured and analytical manner
• Managing internal and external stakeholder relations
• Overall responsible for optimizing the procurement spend across the L&S 3rd party spend
• As a member of the Area ALT the incumbent will play a key role in the development and execution of the L&S commercial strategy
• Develop category strategy in alignment with area business plans
• Enable sustainable and profitable growth through best-in-class sourcing, optimizing operational behaviors and supplier innovation.
• Develop and oversee the realization of the procurement plan (Pipeline)
We are looking for
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, logistics and supply chain management
• >10 years procurement would be a key advantage and i.e. in a matrix organization.
• Experience in leading teams is a must.
• Fluency in French is a plus.
• Experience in Transformation is a plus.
• Ability to work in ambiguous contexts and quickly adapt without losing speed or executional focus
• Experience in leading significant contract negotiations is necessary, ideally within supply chain management, logistics or shipping operations.
• Ability to drive motivation & engagement within the team
• Awareness of cost drivers will be highly valued in the selection process.
• It is necessary to possess experience within project management and it is expected that the candidate in previous roles have acted as project leader for cross-functional projects.
• The individual we are looking for must have strong communication & interpersonal skills, through which he or she will engage a broad range of colleagues and stakeholders locally, regionally, and globally across a wide range of departments.
• We are looking for an experienced negotiator with a solid track record within various environments and across multiple geographies.
