African Disability Forum (ADF) est une organisation continentale africaine membre des organisations de personnes handicapées (OPH) en Afrique dont la vision est de construire une Afrique inclusive où toutes les personnes handicapées et leurs familles voient leurs droits et leurs voix respectés et participent activement à la vie de leurs communautés et nations.

It currently has member National Disability Organizing Federations in 44 African countries, 9 continental DPOs and 4 sub-regional DPOs.  The African Disability Forum has two main objectives:

1) Unify and amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, their families and organizations in Africa at the national, regional and international levels.

2) Strengthen the capacity of organizations of persons with disabilities in Africa to promote the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families.

The African Disability Forum would like to hire a committed and interested Financial officer who will be based in Niamey (Niger) to assist the Operations and finance Director.

Job Summary: Supporting the finance and accounting team and reporting to the Finance Director, the Finance Officer will provide financial and administrative support to colleagues and stakeholders of ADF various projects implementing partners. The Finance officer will be recruited for a period of one year renewable on the basis of an annual performance evaluation and budget availability.

Our ideal candidate demonstrates interest in managing accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable. He should also have excellent organizational skills and be able to handle time-sensitive tasks.

ADF is currently implementing the We are Able project in six countries namely Burundi, Ethiopia, DRC, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda. The Finance Officer should therefore be willing to travel to support financial monitoring and reporting of budget execution with implementing partners in the six countries.

The key duties and responsibilities of the position are as follow:

  • Support project management and verify administrative and financial reporting.
  • Keep accurate records for all daily transactions
  • Process invoices
  • Assist with budget preparation
  • Ensure the budgetary follow-up of project expenses with each of the local partners
  • Track bank deposits and payments and reconcile bank statements
  • Review and implement financial policies
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
  • Support external audit activities

Job Requirements

  • Proven work experience of two years as a Finance Officer or similar role
  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
  • Experience using financial software
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and online/virtual communications
  • Knowledge of financial regulations
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data
  • BSc degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
  • A master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or a Professional qualification as a CFA/CPA is considered a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of the rights of persons with disabilities and the inclusion of persons with disabilities and International (or local) Sign Language knowledge is an advantage
  • Language requirement: fluency in English and French both writing and speaking
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in multicultural and remote teams.
  • Age limit: 35 years old
