Location: Dakar or any of the WaterAid countries in West Africa region: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Liberia, Niger or Nigeria

It’s hard to believe that today 771 million people do not have clean water and 1.7 billion do not have a decent toilet – around 1 in 5 of the world’s population. Every two minutes a child under five dies from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.

As our Regional Technical Advisor for West Africa you will ensure that our programmes are delivered to standards in West Africa and that our programme delivery is consistent with national and global best practice in the WASH sector, as well as contribute to raising the standards of technical competence in our country programmes to the highest levels.

This is a 2 years fixed term (full time) role and renewal will be subject to performance. The job will be require frequent travel within West Africa and occasional travel outside the region.

In this role, you will provide technical support to designing and implementing our programmes in West Afric, as well as ensure maintenance of our quality programme standards.

You’ll also:

  • Contribute to developing capacity of staff and partners
  • Identify and promote good practices in the region that enable us to achieve high levels of technical excellence
  • Identify key opportunities for the region to be represented to promote and enhance our understanding and experience of technical issues on areas of particular interest to the region

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Minimum 10 years of cognate experience in WASH, working at a senior management level in International development sector
  • Technical WASH experience: well-updated on innovative technologies, systems, and approaches
  • Experience of developing, designing, and implementing WASH programmes
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Fully committed to WaterAid’s vision, mission and values and a way of working that demonstrates this, with the ability to communicate this enthusiasm to others
