Le Centre pour la recherche forestière internationale (CIFOR) et le Centre international pour la recherche en agroforesterie (CIRAF) envisagent un monde plus équitable où les arbres, dans tous les paysages, des terres arides aux tropiques humides, améliorent l’environnement et le bien-être de tous. Fondés en 1993 et 1978, le CIFOR et l’ICRAF sont membres du CGIAR, un partenariat mondial de recherche pour un avenir sûr sur le plan alimentaire, qui se consacre à la réduction de la pauvreté, au renforcement de la sécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle et à l’amélioration des ressources naturelles.
POSTE 1 : Social and Behavioral Change Technical Advisor Wild Meat Disease Risk Reduction Consultant
Overview
Wild meat is widely consumed in Cameroon presenting risks of disease transmission from both endemic and emerging zoonotic diseases. At the same time, wild meat makes a very important contribution to diets in Cameroon. There are many actors involved in the Cameroon wild meat food chain starting from the hunters in the forest or savanna, household members who prepare the meat for household consumption, traders who bring the meat to vendors in the markets, the vendors who sell the meat, restaurateurs who prepare and cook the meat, and the consumers who purchase, prepare, and consume the meat. Each actor is potentially exposed to different risks and can engage in behaviors that mitigate or perpetuate risk of spillover of animal borne-diseases to humans.
The objective of this project is to understand the behaviors that expose people to different types of risks along the chain of actors involved in the wild meat food chain from the forest to the plate in Cameroon, and investigate and understand what messaging and communication (Social Behavioural Change (SBC) strategies) might be effective in moving consumers away from risky behaviours that are likely to lead to poor health outcomes. The overall goal is to develop recommendations for activities and policies that mitigate risks of disease transmission along the chain. In order to achieve this goal, the project requires additional support and therefore looking for the services of an SBC technical advisor to assist the project team in the design and implementation of SBC activities in two sites selected by the project around the Dja forest reserve.
Duties and responsibilities
Advise the Project Team on relevant SBC strategies and SBC strategy design, including design and creation of communications material and stakeholder engagement. Help the Project team with recruitment of the ground field team for SCB implementation.
The SBC technical advisor will meet once weekly with the project team (can meet remotely); S/he will advise on recruitment for on the ground field team, liaise between project staff and relevant health stakeholders in Cameroon, advise on design and development of the SCB strategy in collaboration with the Project Team, provide input and feedback on SBC plan and implementation, provide input and feedback on communications materials, and help to ensure that project is well situated in Cameroon One Health and Zoonoses strategies.
Education, knowledge and experience
- MSC or equivalent and knowledge and experience in social and behavioral change work.
- knowledge of health networks in Cameroon, familiarity with relevant stakeholders for zoonotic disease risk reduction, and experience in project design and management
- Fluent in both French and English.
Terms and conditions
- This is a consultancy position.
- The consultancy is for one day per week for a period of 6 months from February to July 2023.
- Work location: Negotiable, preferably candidate who can work from any location in Cameroon.

POSTE 2 : Resource Mobilization Coordinator
Overview
Resource Mobilization Coordinators contribute to CIFOR-ICRAF’s resource mobilization goal to achieve significant, predictable, multi-year funding to enable flexible support for CIFOR-ICRAF programmes. To do so, coordinators ensure that CIFOR-ICRAF staff benefit from targeted and analysed funder profiles and contacts, funding opportunities (Call for Proposals (RfPs)), standardized RM processes, tools and strategic, coordinated, efficient support for high quality, compelling solicited and unsolicited grant application submissions.
Primary objectives for this position include: reviewing identified funding opportunities (calls for proposals); coordinate and support the development of strategic grant applications, timely review and submission of grant applications; facilitate donor intelligence and assurance of strategic alignment of CIFOR-ICRAF’s objectives with funder priorities and objectives; assisting and supporting other relevant units with outreach and stewardship of major global donors and prospects; and contribute to standardized processes, tools and resources for unsolicited fundraising. The new Resource Mobilization Coordinator will be expected to have French language skills as Francophone Africa will be their primary focus.
Duties and responsibilities
Summary of responsibilities
- Improved development and submission of high-quality concept notes and proposals (grant applications) to donors.
- Improved CIFOR/ICRAF-wide proposal-writing capacity – to improve the quality of drafts produced by science teams and increase in overall quantity of grant applications in the pipeline.
- Strengthened relations with current donors and prospects with increased revenue available to implementation of CIFOR-ICRAF’s 2020-2030 Strategy.
- Enhanced institutional reputation as a global research authority.
Other Responsibilities
Proposal/ Program Development and Coordination
- Coordinate the research and verification of new funding opportunities for relevant global campaigns and/or initiatives;
- Support global research teams in all stages of pre-award functions (concept note/proposal development, planning, drafting, editing, coordinating with potential proposal partners, internal clearances and submission of high value solicitation documents) and efficient transfer of approved awards to Programme/Grant Management;
Strategy, Analysis and Reporting
- Maintain efficient knowledge sharing and information portal for capturing and sharing information and managing donor intelligence to enable successful funding approaches and institutional understanding of CIFOR-ICRAF’s resource development activities;
- Support the RM team on reporting progress in key areas of the funding strategy and preparation of briefing materials for donor presentations and/or meetings;
Support unsolicited fundraising processes and practices
- Coordinate with the RM team and other corporate units on donor stewardship, communications and cultivation of major global donors and prospects.
- Provide critical feedback for the development of a standardized process (RM Strategy) for program development linked to CIFOR- ICRAF Key Performance Areas (KPAs) support the development and submission of high quality programs and coordinated planning.
- Work with the RM team on the development of guidance notes, standard operating procedures, tools, templates, best practices, lessons learned, and ensure consistent use of required tools by scientists.
- Support the development of Funder Profiles.
- Work with the team on enhancing tools and processes that support “go/ no go” decisions and the monitoring of progress in relation to unsolicited fundraising.
Education, knowledge and experience
- Master’s degree in International Relations, Conservation/Environmental Sciences, or Agricultural Development (an undergraduate degree with 5 years’ relevant work experience will be considered).
- Knowledge of national/global development agendas and goals.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in resource mobilization with proven track record of raising substantial funds for international organizations, UN agencies, and/or international non-governmental organizations – preferably in francophone Africa.
- Understanding of project cycle management.
- Experience in working with diverse teams.
- Solid work ethic including quality and timely delivery.
- Above average written and presentation skills.
- Experience with fundraising databases.
- Fluency in English and French mandatory (Spanish desirable).
- Highly organized, detail oriented, “door opener” with reliable timely and high-quality delivery of assignments.

Terms and conditions
- This is a Global position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in USD commensurate with skills and experience.
- The initial appointment will be for 2 (two) years, inclusive of a six-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
