Duties
Performs skilled work for masonry construction, maintenance and repairs at US Government owned or leased real properties. The position in Facility Management section. The supervision is provided by Special Projects Maintenance Foreman. This is not a supervisory position. Makes repairs to existing brickwork, concrete structures, surface finishes and tile work including all preparatory activities. Performs quality control, scheduling and all safety functions related to the works. Maintains all tools in good working order and advises supervisor of any needed materials, supplies and/or equipment.
Qualifications and Evaluations
- Requirements:
- EXPERIENCE: At least two years of continuous, progressive work experience as a journeyman mason is required plus some semi-skilled experience in the other building and maintenance trades is required .
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must possess full knowledge of established practices and procedures involved in the masonry and building trades.
- Education Requirements:
- Completion of vocational education (BT2) and training or apprenticeship recognized as producing a highly skilled journeyman Mason is required.
- Evaluations:
- LANGUAGE:English: Basic Knowledge of English is required – Able to use greetings, ask questions and give simple directions. Can form basic sentences and express basic thoughts.
This will be tested.
French: Good Working Knowledge of French is required – Good vocabulary and understanding of grammar and able to construct sentences. Able to use French as part of normal work duties including having conversations with customers and answer questions.
This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must possess a strong working knowledge of the masonry field and the ability to use the tools of the trade. Experience with powered tools such as pneumatic hammers and concrete sprayers is required. Must possess basic math skills for simple calculations of area, volume, etc. and conversion of metric to imperial system is required. Must be able to safely operate and maintain shop tools and power equipment and perform heavy lifting (up to 41 kgs). A valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years is required.
