Overview

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid-Tropics (ICRISAT) is seeking applications for scientific Officer- Farming System/Remote Sensing Specialist to support Model validation of Scaling up Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) in Niger. The activities are undertaken as part of the SERVIR initiative in WEST AFRICA (SERVIR WA phase 2: 2022-2027. The scientific officer’s work location will be in Niamey, Niger and s/he will be reporting to the ICRISAT country representative.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Characterizing LULC based on physical and socio-economic factors in areas where FMNR has been successfully implemented;
  • Identifying suitable areas for upscaling FMNR practices based on the identified characteristics;
  • Analyzing how the FMNR and non-FMNR areas change by using time series analysis and the effects on crop yields.
  • Assist the Project team in communicating ICRISAT results with SERVIR West Africa research results.
  • Implementation of online and offline platform (Collaboration with LULC, AIMS and GIT)
  • Peer reviewed paper writting

Key Skills

  • Strong computational capability (working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning , Cloud computing),
  • Bilingual in English and French (good verbal and written communication skills required in both anguages),
  • Strong social and inter-personal skills, and a results-oriented personality

Additional/Preferred Skills

  • Experience with farming sytem data analysis, Quality of Service (QoS),
  • Interest and ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams

Preferred Qualifications

MSc in Agricultural/environmental sciences, appliied mathematics, computer science remote sensing or related field
