This person will expand, coordinate, and improve CIVIC’s advocacy, communications and strategic engagements work in the Sahel at both the regional and country level. They will also develop, document and share best practices from planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of advocacy activities. They will help develop communications plans, tools and materials and strategic engagement to ensure successful program implementation. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent team and project management abilities who thrives in fast-paced environments. This position will report to the Sahel Advocacy, Policy and Communications Senior Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Undertake a range of advocacy, communications, and strategic engagement activities to inform and improve the policymaking environment and galvanized actions to advance the protection of civilians in the Sahel and some West African countries.
- Engage constantly policymakers, including donors and decision-makers, in the value of promoting the protection of civilians and supporting CIVIC’s work.
- Design, produce, review, and comment on communications materials, including printings and electronic media materials, scripts, posters, leaflets, and video/audio recordings.
- Support policy dialogue and record accomplishments in advocacy and strategies to influence decision-makers on PoC.
- Identify government counterparts to mentor and train on PoC and Civilian Harm Mitigation (CHM).
- Organize learning, field visits, knowledge sharing, and capitalization workshops on advocacy and communications activities to advance PoC at all levels and to enable lessons learned to be used in future program design.
- Create and maintain a media database for CIVC Sahel and WA information and communication needs.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with decision-makers and media actors.
- Develop a mapping using a power analysis of key decision-makers and stakeholders regarding advancing PoC in the Sahel and West Africa coastal countries. Create and maintain a stakeholder’s engagements database.
- Compile monthly advocacy, communications, and strategic engagement reports and share them with the line manager to include them in the monthly and quarterly reports.
- Support CIVIC’s mission in the timely dissemination of program information internally and externally.
- Prepare press releases and press kits as requested under CIVIC’s communication priorities.
- Provide the Sahel management and leadership team with regular updates on political and policy developments linked to the CIVIC mission and mandate.
- Support CIVIC’s advocacy efforts by developing appropriate analysis and strategies, including communication strategies, messaging, materials, and tools.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate collaboration and partnerships with institutions, actors, and organizations (NGO, civil society, Parliamentarians, and media) for joint advocacy activities on PoC.
- Undertake advocacy initiatives with the Sahel and West African decision-making bodies and stakeholders (including Governments, local MPs, CSOs, regional and international institutions, etc.) to advance PoC.
- Prepare, organize, assess, and report on meetings, events, and initiatives for CIVIC to engage with identified actors/stakeholders to advance PoC/CHM or any related matter in the Sahel and West Africa.
- Any other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Educational qualification & experience requirements :
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Public Administration or Development / Communication Studies, Rural Development or other related fields.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in Advocacy and/or communications in the NGO sector
- Knowledge, skills, or any capability on advocacy, communication, training, PoC, Gender and Social Inclusion, human security, civilian harm reduction, security sector reform, peace building will be an added advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work proactively and flexibly alongside a wide range of team members.
- A flexible approach to work, with understanding of team working in a rapidly changing environment and at times under extreme pressure.
- Ability to solve problems, work under own initiative and see tasks through to completion.
- Proven organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including social media communications and presentation skills in French and English.
- Excellent computer literacy, confident in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and use of e-mail and electronic diaries.
- Capacity to engage with at the time with Track 1, Track 2 and Track 3 actors, including high level senior officials, executive officials, general officers, senior officers, CSOs leaders and members, community leaders and members, etc.
