Job Profile Summary

BP Senegal is looking for a tax compliance manager to manage the full range of day-to-day operational tax compliance matters for bp’s business in Senegal.  You will work as part of a team based in Dakar, Nouakchott and the UK, primarily working alongside bp tax, finance and procurement colleagues, and also bp’s outsourced tax compliance providers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage outsourced tax compliance activity for bp Senegal including annual tax declarations, as well as monthly and quarterly submissions (withholding tax, VAT, third party payment declarations etc)
  • As required, support tax compliance activity for bp Mauritania for Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (cross border project with Mauritania) withholding tax obligations
  • Work with bp finance team and outsourced compliance provider to ensure good quality annual financial statements compliant with SYSCOHADA are prepared and submitted to tax administration
  • Proactively monitor vendor set-up in bp’s accounting systems from a tax perspective to ensure Senegalese withholding tax compliance obligations can be met
  • Work with bp finance and procurement teams to resolve vendor set-up issues as they arise
  • Liaise with tax administration on routine compliance matters such as stamping of invoices for VAT exemption, requests for WHT certificates etc
  • Proactively contribute to continuous process improvement in all areas of bp Senegal tax compliance
  • Monitor tax legislation changes to manage impact for bp and ensure all compliance obligations are met
  • Attend tax audit meetings with the Senegalese tax administration, working with other bp tax and finance team members to provide responses to tax audit enquiries and information requests
  • Proactively and continuously consider tax audit-readiness, with support from bp UK tax team – including maintenance of document storage solutions for all compliance related documents
  • Collation of bp Senegal tax data for bp Group reports
  • As required, support the wider Mauritania and Senegal region Tax team eg. in resolving subcontractor tax issues, analysing legislation for new business activity, interacting with tax and other authorities
  • Integrate into the broader global bp Tax function, with a focus on collaboration and sharing expertise

Education and Experience Required:
Education

  • Finance Education to degree standard with a relevant additional professional qualification

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in finance.
  •   Exposure to Upstream oil and gas activity, gained in industry or private practice, preferred but not essential
  • Sound understanding of Senegalese tax principles NB: Training and guidance will be provided relating to the unique legislation and compliance obligations relating to the cross-border Grand Tortue Ahmeyim project
  • Good understanding of SYSCOHADA accounting principles
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with culturally diverse and geographically dispersed teams
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time management skills
  • Good attention to detail and ability to organise, maintain and improve existing document storage systems in preparation for future tax audits
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular the ability to interrogate and manipulate tax and financial data
  • Good English communication. Must be able to read, write and speak
