Job Profile Summary

Mauritania and Senegal (M&S) has recently become a new P&O Region. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in an emerging world-class hydrocarbon basin in a development that is not only a significant event for bp but also the two countries involved. bp has signed agreements to develop significant gas resources in West Africa. The agreements involve bp assuming operatorship of a very large licence position in these countries. Under the terms of the agreements bp will operate all appraisal and development activities in the licences, which hold world-class Deepwater gas discoveries and exploration prospectively.

The licences include the Tortue field estimated to contain up to 15 Tcf of discovered gas resource. The multi-year exploration activities and development project at Tortue represent an exciting and strategically significant investment opportunity for bp.

We are now looking for two Operations Specialists to focus on our in-country production activities. Reporting to the In-Country Operations Lead, these positions will provide operations technicial knowledge to support engagement activities, bringing operational challenges to life and supporting resolution.

The role will be expected to be a safety leader within their local office, leading incident investigations, participating in supplier safety forums and leading on office safety. They will also be expected to be a part of our incident management response team.

This role will play key role in supplier management in both Mauritania and Senegal. They will support remote and local contract accountable managers to complete safety and performance related oversight activities. A key focus will be identifying contractor scope of work optimisations and efficiency improvements. The role will also support progression of our local content plan, working to identify potential local suppliers, and working with local suppliers to develop long term capability.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support conformance to Production policies and procedures, with specific emphasis on management of change, risk management and process safety, incident response and investigation activities.
  • 3rd party contractor oversight, with particular emphasis on safety management and efficiency improvement
  • Support production local content and nationalization plans, with a particular focus on local supplier development
  • Support Country VP and their teams in external stakeholder management, bringing operations knowledge into stakeholder engagement activities.

Education and Experience Required:
Education

  • Degree in engineering or related operations discipline

Experience
Essential

  • Self-starter able to learn quickly and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Good communicator, able to discuss technical information in terms which are easy to understand
  • Experience in oil and/or gas plant operations, with particular emphasis on safety and performance management

Desirable

  • Prior experience working on a hydrocarbon operating site
  • Experience in contractor management and safety oversight
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural team
  • Experience in coaching others and in people development
  • Confident in working in a flexible, dynamic working environment
